9" (23 cm.) seated. 14" if upright. All muslin doll posed with stitched-limbs as though
seated,stiffened-mask face with pressed and painted features,"O"-shaped eyes with large black
pupils,pronounced nose,closed mouth with side-smile. Condition: very good,some facial dust.
Comments: Swee'Pea,the character baby from the Popeye series,a foundling child found on
Popeye's doorstep and cared for by him,the character first appeared in the early years of the
series created by Elzie Segar. This delightful doll wears its original red cotton sateen baby
bunting and bonnet,and has uniquely designed features that correspond exactly to the cartoon
drawings,circa 1935.
