Description
14"(36 cm.) Composition socket head on swivel wooden,sculpted brown hair in boyish fashion
with pronounced forelock curl,painted blue side-glancing eyes,long curly upper
lashes,button-shaped nose,closed "O"shaped mouth,muslin torso,composition jointed arms
and legs,sculpted ribbed brown boots. The doll is wearing its original khaki cotton twill Army
uniform with gold buttons and brown belt,matching cap with emblem,and has original gold
heart bracelet and celluloid pin reading "I Am Skippy,The Real American Boy". Marks: Effanbee
Skippy c. P.L. Crosby. The character of Skippy was designed by Percy Crosby,and first
appeared on a Life Magazine cover in 1924. Skippy was licensed and appeared in numerous
advertising pieces,novelty objects,even a children's clothing line,and this doll which was
created by Bernard Lipfert for Effanbee in 1929 and made for nearly a decade. Excellent
condition,rare model in perfectly preserved condition.
