8"(20 cm.) Lithographed tin salesman with brilliantly-designed checkerboard suit and cigarette in
his mouth,is walking along,his pet duck at his side,carrying a sign "Wanna buy a duck? Joe
Penner". Excellent condition of lithography and mechanism. When wound,he walks vigorously
forward,his hat bobbing up and down. American,Marx,circa 1938. Joe Penner,famous in both
vaudeville and radio,appeared in Disney's 1938 cartoon "Mother Goose Goes to Hollywood"in
which he appears to sell Donald Duck by serving him on a plate. His catch-phrase "Wanna buy a
duck?"became a popular phenomena of the times.
