Description
13" (33 cm.) All-composition doll with brown complexion,black sculpted hair suggesting tight
curls,darkest-brown side-glancing eyes,closed mouth with row of teeth,five-piece
composition body with jointing at shoulders and hips. The doll is wearing his factory-original
blue flannel baseball uniform with "Dodgers" emblem,dark blue knit sleeves and
leggings,shoes,dark blue flannel baseball cap with "B". Excellent condition,slight costume
dust,light surface lines on hair. The doll has its original paper hang-tag in the shape of a
baseball glove,having photograph of the famous baseball player and with maker's mark "Allied
Grand" of Brooklyn. Jackie Robinson is credited with breaking the color barrier when he
debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947,thereafter credited with having an exceptional
baseball career. Allied Grand,circa 1948,the firm which had specialized in budget-line
dolls,scored their first home-run with this desirable and socially-important doll featuring a
hero from their own home town.
