Description
6" (15 cm.) Painted tin mechanical toy depicting Felix in an upright standing pose with hinged
legs that allow him to briskly walk along when wound. His painted black finish over raised
definition of fur is original and excellent. His white face with large round "O" shaped eyes,defined
whiskers and straight-line mouth,is original albeit darkened. Functions well. Attributed to
Nifty,Germany,circa 1922. Felix came to film life in 1919 in a cartoon series,Feline Follies,by Otto
Messmer for the Pat Sullivan studios and remained the most popular animal cartoon figure until
Mickey Mouse appeared. His popular culture extended from film to numerous
toys,dolls,ephemera and books.
