16" (41 cm.) All cloth dolls with hand-painted features and mohair wig,three of the dolls with suede-like facial complexion,and the fourth with felt-face; each with brown side-glancing eyes with defined upper lashes,eye shadow,one-stroke brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with pursed lips. The mohair wigs in varying shades of brunette to light brown to blonde retain their soft curls or braids in original coiffure,and their five-piece bodies are stitch- jointed. Condition: generally excellent with typical slight surface dust on faces. Comments: the first version of Madame Alexander's cloth Little Women dolls,appearing in 1933-34,and coinciding with the RKO release of the film,Little Women,with Katherine Hepburn. Each of the dolls wears its original costume,shoes and socks,and undergarments,and three of the four costumes (Meg,Jo and Amy) are tagged with name of doll and ñLittle Women,Copyright Pending,Madame Alexander,N.Y.î. Very rare early dolls,especially rare to find as entire set,the hand-painted details on felt-faced Beth are especially fine.
