Oil-painted canvas stretched on original frame depicts a young girl with short light brown hair standing in front of curtains,her left hand resting upon a table top with scalloped table cover. The young girl stands shyly,with nicely detailed facial features and shading of complexion and eyes,and is wearing a white pinafore dress with tiers of detailed cutwork,stockings,five-button ankle boots,and dangle coral earrings,whose style suggests they are family heirlooms that she was permitted to wear while posing for the painting. Unframed,there are a few small canvas repairs visible on the back only. Probably American,anonymous,mid-19th century.
