Description
23" (58 cm.) Posed en pointe upon a velvet-covered wooden platform is a bisque-headed doll
with blue glass paperweight eyes,painted features,closed mouth,shaded lips,pierced
ears, brunette mohair wig, very shapely carton torso attached to bisque shoulderplate, shapely
legs, bisque forearms. When wound, and lever released, music and movements begin: she
pirouettes en pointe, gracefully sweeping her left leg forward and backward, while at the same
time, her torso inclines side to side and her arms move up and down. Condition: generally
excellent, music and movements function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 3 (head).
Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890. Value Points: outstanding pristine original
condition of the exquisite piece, her beautifully modeled body enhancing her graceful
movements, and her exceptional silk and lace ballerina costume embellished with metallic
soutache. It is certain that few example of this deluxe model ballerina were ever created, and
still fewer remain in this to-dream-of freshness.
