Description
12" (30 cm.) x 13" x 7"d. A wooden-framed shadow-box with original decorative paper
covers, gilded frame, and early glass cover contains an extraordinarily imaginative scene of a child
asleep in a tree and flower-laden bower amidst a forest, and there is a little pond with glass
waterfall is just at the front. A wax man and woman, garbed as aristocratic couple, are having a
stroll in the forest and appear to have just come upon the child and look on in wonder. The
forest is filled with dozens of fancily painted paper-mache or wooden birds, butterflies, and little
animals that appear to be protecting the child. Excellent condition. Early 19th century,an
extraordinary and wonderfully preserved object of imagination.
