23" (58 cm.) All-wooden carved doll with socket head,sculpted short curly hair in shaded brown color,sculpted ears,defined character sculpting of face including eye sockets,wide rounded nose,full cheeks,closed mouth,painted brown upper glancing eyes,rose blush on eyelids,earlobes,cheek and chin,all-wooden body with dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips,knees and ankles,swivel wrists,ball-swivel waist,over-sized hand- carved hands and feet with defined toes,fingers and nails. Condition: generally excellent,two fingers broken above top knuckle. Comments: late 18th/early 19th century,the wonderfully articulated wooden body later served as inspiration for the deposed poupee body of Leon Casimir Bru. Value Points: very rare large wooden doll with highly-characterized facial model,original finish throughout with artistic painting,rare wooden articulated body.
