Description
11" (28 cm.) A cheerful-faced paper-mache baby with painted features,blue eyes,closed
laughing mouth, dimples,is posed in a crawling position with hinged exposed paper-mache arms
and legs with bare feet. The carton torso encloses the clockwork mechanism which, when
wound, causes, the baby to crawl forward in a realistic manner. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: Robert Clay patented the doll in 1871,actually "The Creeping Doll" in the patent
description. Value Points: rare and early American doll whose delightful facial expression
matches the happy occasion of "first crawling",wonderfully preserved with original finish and
costume.
