Description
14" (36 cm.) Hollow paper-mache head with unusual cone-shaped back designed to
accommodate wig or bonnet fitting has original complexion and features,as well as paper-
detailed bodice. Displayed on the rare head is a human-sized woven straw bonnet known as "a
deux bonjours" with original woven soutache embroidery and wool lining. The paper-mache
heads were deposed by Frenchman,Louis Danjard in 1860; his patent concerned the decoration
which, although appearing to be painted,is actually applied decoupage. Excellent condition with
few minor flakes and wear, original finish. Very rare to find in this condition.
