18" (46 cm.) Paper-mache socket head,blue glass enamel inset eyes,painted lashes and brows,open mouth,four teeth,brunette mohair wig,all-wooden body with dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent,light nose rub. Comments: French,circa 1900,an original attached note indicates the doll is wearing a costume of Pontaumur in Puy de Dome,the L̴Auvergne region. Value Points: rare doll in perfectly preserved condition,wearing its elaborate original folklore costume of multi-layers,including coiffe and bonnet,coin pockets,pasiley shawl. The doll is shown in the book French Dolls in Folklore Costume with costume elements shown separately.
