Description
13" (33 cm.) wagon. 24" overall length. 8" driver. A wooden four-wheeled delivery cart has
original creamy finish with stenciled decorations,lettering,and medallions,images of a cow
head on either side and a crawling baby at the back. The cart is labeled "Cream
Buttermilk,Alderney Milk,Grade A,Laboratory Controlled and Tuberculin Tested,No. 47" with
"Health Dept. Permit" and various brown and red stripes that match the spoked wheels. A
brown flannel-covered horse with elaborate saddle,tail and mane,mounted on a wheeled
green wooden base is pulling the cart,and there is a moustached gentleman driver with
original chambray uniform. Finally,there is a wooden crate with Alderney Dairy stamp
containing 12 wooden milk bottles. Condition: generally excellent. original finish throughout
is well-preserved. Comments: Schoenhut,the wagons were offered in their 1929 catalog with
two choices of horse,this brown example being the rarer. Expensive for their time at $5,most
sets were used as exhibition pieces in dairy and bakery stores. Value Points: rare American
toy with accessories in remarkably fine state of preservation,with rarer horse color,wonderful
medallion designs.
