18" (46 cm.) Each is hand-sculpted porcelain shoulder head of the late American President and his wife,Mamie with distinctive and hand-painted features,he with slightly-balding pate and striated grey hair,piercing blue eyes,modeled age lines,and kind smile on closed mouth; she with characteristic short brown hair with curly forehead bangs and short arranged curls brushed behind her ears,painted grey eyes,strong nose,beaming smile with painted teeth,sculpted earrings and three-strand pearls,Each has original muslin body with sculpted hands and feet,she with above-the-elbow coral painted gloves and pink heeled shoes. Condition: generally excellent,Ike has repaired chin on lower front shoulderplate. Marks: Martha Thompson Mamie Eisenhower 1956 (head) Murray T. Ô57 (chest plate on Ike). Comments: the models of the President and First Lady were created by Martha Thompson in 1956 in 20" and 21" size,as well as this slightly smaller size; it is known that her son,Murray Thompson colloborated with his mother on their production,particularly on the sculpting and painting of Ike. Value Points: stunningly accurate portrayals of the couple,shown wearing inauguration costumes.
