Description
51" (130 cm.) Of paper mache,the hollow-formed torso and head of a proud,seemingly-prancing
horse is depicted,in original brown paint with defined facial features, sculpted mane, horse
blanket, and having detachable rider's legs with sculpted boots. The horse is designed with a
large hole at the saddle position, whose purpose is to allow a human rider to pose inside,as
though "riding" the horse; a green blanket skirt serves to hide the human legs. Smaller versions
of the toy were presented in French etrennes catalogs for child play; this larger model is
extremely rare, likely intended as parade model,or a photographic prop at amusement sites.
Excellent condition. French,circa 1890.
