13" (33 cm.) Sculpted porcelain shoulder head of adult lady with oval face,elongated
throat,and sculpted bosom,having brown hair with well-defined comb-marks arranged in long
ringlet curls artfully positioned onto her shoulders,painted blue downcast eyes in well-defined
eye sockets,painted lashes and eyeliner,aquiline nose,closed mouth with upturned lip
corners,muslin body,porcelain lower limbs,painted gold shoes. Condition: generally
excellent,some roughness on hair coronet indicates a decoration that is now missing. Marks:
MDT Ô54. Comments: Martha Thompson,the esteemed American artist,whose work was
always created one-by-one,making each piece highly individual as well as artistic. Value
Points: very rare lady from the series of 19th century fashionable ladies inspired by French
engravings,the doll has painted gold bracelet with real glass stone "jewel". real earrings
sculpted to fit to the doll,gold sculpted coronet,and a row of attached rhinestone "diamonds"
at the back of her head.
