13" (33 cm.) Hand sculpted portrait of lady whose modestly inclined face belies her amply-
shaped bosom,having hand-sculpted brown hair with arranged ringlet curls around the
forehead and a sculpted Charlotte cap with wide ruffled bonnet having cut-work ruffles and
decorated with tiny blue flowers,blue painted eyes in defined eye sockets,red and black upper
eyeliner,aquiline nose,closed mouth with shy smile,muslin body,porcelain lower
limbs,sculpted and painted elbow-length gloves,painted blue flat shoes. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: 5 Martha Thompson Ô54. Comments: Martha Thompson,circa 1954,from the
very rare series of 19th century ladies by the pre-eminent American artist. Value Points:
extremely rare model whose detailed bonnet is extraordinary in its artistry,perfectly framing
