Description
Of lithographed tin,the toy comprises a striped "Zebroid" pulling a two-wheeled cart with red
trim,being driven by a man with tall sombrero,blue shirt and brown trousers. When coil-spring is
wound,the zebroid lurches forward,bucking and ears flapping while the man bounces up and
down in the seat,attempting to hold the animal in check. Marked Lehmann. Excellent condition.
Germany,Lehmann,EPL model 752,circa 1925. The toy was inspired by the ill-fated actual
attempt in the early 1900s to cross-breed the wild zebra with domesticated saddle animals;
although the actual zebroid farm was unsuccessful,the toy was a hit; it was made in various
designs for more than 20 years.
