Description
17" (43 cm.) To fit slim-bodied lady doll about 22". Of delicate ivory silk,the low-shoulder
gown has a fitted bodice with purple silk sides centering an ivory silk panel that is decorated
with a zig-zag pattern of pearl button beads. The two-layer skirt includes muslin underskirt
with double tiers of lace ruffles trimmed with gold paillettes,and the outer demi-train silk skirt
with net lining for fullness is decorated with gold metallic braid that forms three bands at the
hem. There is a metallic trimmed apron,a wide metallic belt with gilded buckle centered by a
brooch of faux-emerald,and a pearl-trimmed metallic band around the neckline. The dress is
fitted on a muslin body with paper mache arms and legs,the feet with painted blue heeled
boots with pink trim. Also included is the original wax-over-paper mache head (in very poor
condition) with original elaborate jewelry. Condition: costume and body very good,with some
fraility to silk. Comments: Germany,circa 1875. Value Points: superbly detailed and preserved
costume,likely created as an exhibition piece.
