13" (33 cm.) Hand-sculpted porcelain shoulder head with slender oval-shaped face,painted
facial features with dark grey downcast eyes,feathered lashes,aquiline nose,closed mouth with
upturned lip corners,pierced sculpted ears,brown sculpted hair arranged with curls onto the
forehead,three casually arranged ringlet curls modeled away from the head and a curl onto
her nape,the hair surmounted by a black-topped blue bonnet decorated with tiny Dresden
flowers and blue bows,muslin body,bisque lower limbs with painted gloves,stockings,and blue
boots with black tips and buttons,wearing a fine silk costume of the era. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: MDT Ô54 (shoulders) Martha D. Thompson (body). Comments: by the
esteemed charter member of NIADA,Martha Thompson,1954,from her extremely rare series of
19th century portrait ladies. Value Points: few examples of this model were ever made,thus
combining great rarity with exquisite beauty and workmanship.
