Description
5.5" (14 cm.) The painted tin toy features two bonneted women seated inside a blue hansom cab
while a little dog sits at their feet balanced on his two back paws, and a driver sits above, his
hands posed on the steering wheel. When the coil-spring is wound, several actions occur: the
reckless driver propels the cab erratically, the dog dances about nervously, and the the two
woman implore the driver to stop, one tapping the roof of the cab with her umbrella while the
other waves her arms about. Marked Lehmann. Germany,Lehmann,EPL model 520,circa 1905.
The toy was named in honor of Lehmann's two sisters,Lieselotte and Laura, and may have been
inspired by their visit to London when hansom cabs were prevalent. Excellent
condition,mechanism functions well.
