Description
5" (13 cm.) x 4" sketch,16" x 14" frame. Crayon
noir on paper,stamped with artist"s initials,the
sketch depicts a mother encouraging her child to
walk toward her,the child braced by a classic
wooden walker. The French realist
artist,1814-1875,is considered one of the foremost
creators of the Barbizon school of art,and his
paintings are shown in major museums worldwide.
This work was part of a series of preliminary
sketches for oil paintings,and is of particular
thematic interest to doll collectors. The sketch
is excellent,the matte bottom edges are water
spotted. French,c. 1858
