Description
12" (30 cm.) Each has earthenware head with sculpted detail of hair and painted features, hemp-wrapped body, earthenware hands and lower legs with sculpted shoes, expressively-carved fingers, including woman with hair loosely drawn into a low chignon at her nape, wearing original silk and metallic costume with stiffened paper backing with early printing; and man with short cropped feathered hair, wearing velvet/silk brocade short pants, silk jacket with hand-stitched buttons and edging, shirt and scarf. Condition: generally excellent, man missing one finger. Comments: Neopolitan, early 1800s. Value Points: especially fine detail of costuming with intricate trim, original finish on hair and face.
