Description
5" inside head with. A seven-piece inner
construction of heavy
card-paper (visible inside the bonnet, and possibly
originally
lined to hide the construction detail) is stitched
together to give
shape to the bonnet which sits at the back of the
head and is
designed to allow for chignon. The coiffe is
richly decorated with
superb early pont d'esprit and Alencon lace with a
tightly pleated
medallion-like effect at the back. A wide aqua
ribbon is pleated
to form a banding around the cap and forms a wide
bow with
streamers that fall onto the nape. The coiffe is
ink-inscribed
Henriette Pullaird inside. Circa 1840.
