Description
Of a fine crisp purple/plum silk, the gown features a low- rounded neckline above a dart-shaped bodice and tiny waist. The skirt with all-around pleats is very full and given added shape by an unusual self-piping at the bottom of the hem. The sleeves are an extravagant pouf formed by pleats at the shoulders and cuffs, and hold their shape by an internal straight- cut sleeve lining. The dress is fully muslin-lined,hand- stitched, and has hook and eye closure. Circa 1830.
