Description
4" shoulder width. 8" waist. 12" overall.
Comprising a jacket and over-skirt of bengaline
silk with delicately interwoven grey stripes on a
cream background; and an underskirt of grey and
coral silk. Both jacket and underskirt have
van-dyke edging along the bottom edge and all
edges, epaulets and faux-pocket flaps are trimmed
in a narrow coral silk to match the skirt.
Handmade coral-stitched buttonholes nicely
contrast the brass buttons with raised designs.
The unfitted jacket front curves nicely at the
sides and has loose dart-shaping at the back. The
lustrous grey silk skirt has vertical coral piping
and is edged with a wide band of coral silk. The
workmanship is couturiere quality. Circa 1860.
