11" (28 cm.) Bisque socket head, sculpted blonde bobbed hair with curly bangs, intaglio side-glancing blue eyes with white eye dots, red and black upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: N&T (script) 4. (head) Comments: Nockler & Tittel, circa 1910, who advertised themselves in 1910 as "the only doll factory in Saxony"; actually most of their 100 different models were generic dolls that were simply costumed by the firm; the one known exception is this sculpted-hair side-glancing doll; interesting sidelights about the firm appears in German Doll Encyclopedia by Cieslik, page 219/220. Value Points: rare character, few are known to exist with deeply-sculpted features is wearing original factory costume and wooden sabots. Private collection Merle Glickman.
