14 1/2" (37 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead of man with oval face and very elongated throat, pronounced high cheek bones, bald pate with black wide forelocks onto forehead, black sculpted curls around sides and nape, sculpted sideburns, moustache and neatly-trimmed beard, enamel eyes, open mouth, teeth, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue stockings and red boots, wearing burgundy silk twill tunic with separate matching cuffs and ivory silk vest trimmed with gold braid and paillettes, blue harem pants, and with heavy brass sabre. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, outstanding portraiture and artistry of painting, magnificent original costume.
