Description
18" (46 cm.) Pink-tinted porcelain shoulder head
of adult lady with slender oval face and elongated
throat,deeply defined eye sockets with painted
blue upper glancing eyes,red and black upper
eyeliner,nicely shaped brows,aquiline
nose,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed
mouth with accent line between the lips. Her
sculpted midnight-brown (nearly black)
center-parted hair is brushed in thick waves away
from her face into a loosly three-strand braided
chignon at the back of her head,below which are
four sculpted blue and rose morning glory flowers
with green leaves. She is wearing a fine early
muslin dress and undergarments over a kid body
with stitch-jointing and separated fingers.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 5
(incised inside shoulder plate). Comments: Lippert
& Haas of Schlaggenwald,circa 1855,another version
of the Morning Glory lady was created with flowers
at the side of her head; this present model,with
flowers at the back of hair,is more rare. Value
Points: beautiful modeling of a fine rare doll
including hair and facial features.
