Description
14" (36 cm.) x 10". A gilded wooden frame with
oval-shaped matte presents the rare full-figure
silhouette of a woman with hair arranged in
tightly-woven chignon at her crown and ringlet
curls tumbling onto the sides of her face. She
wears a low-bodice gown with very full upper
sleeves,decorated by a brooch and necklace cross.
The silhouette is accented with pen and ink
details that illuminate the details of the woman"s
hair and costume,yet leave her face in dark
shadow. American,circa 1840. Excellent condition.
