Description
14" (36 cm.) Paper-mache shoulder head of adult
woman with slender oval face and elongated
throat,painted turquoise blue eyes,black upper
eyeliner and brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth
with accent line between the prim lips. Her
sculpted black hair in arranged elaborately in the
coiffure known as "Apollo"s Knot",featuring wide
pouf curls over each ear,and the remainder of her
hair captured high on her crown into two high
looped curls that are edged with sculpted beading
at the base. The doll has her original slender kid
body with wooden limbs,spatula-shaped
hands,painted yellow shoes,and wears her original
tulle gown with matching pantalets and two
petticoats. Condition: generally excellent,one
minor craze line at side shoulder. Comments:
Germany,circa 1840,the model is similar to one
appearing in an early Kestner catalog of
paper-mache dolls. Value Points: near-pristine
condition of the rare model with beautiful
coiffure,fine complexion and painting,original
body and costume.
