Description
19"(48 cm.) Hand-pressed porcelain with
pink-tinted complexion depicting an adult
gentleman,having black sculpted hair in tousled
fashion with stippling detail of curls around the
forehead,the hair combed behind the fully sculpted
and well-detailed ears,painted blue upper glancing
eyes in well-delineated eye sockets,red and black
upper eyeliner,lightly feathered brows,closed
mouth with accented lips,and strong throat. He has
a very early muslin body and hand-stitched leather
arms,and is wearing a wonderful early and
well-patched brown woolen-worsted jacket,tweed
pants,cotton shirt,stockings,and brown kidskin
shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks:
(blue crossed swords symbol inside shoulder
plate). Comments: KPM Meissen,circa 1850,the doll
was from the family estate of Sir Henry and Lady
Peto of Shelbourne,Hampshire,England,and had been
obtained by his aunts at the Great London
International Exhibition of 1851. Value Points:
the very rare early model with maker_s signature
has extraordinary detail of sculpting and
painting,original body and costume,and carries two
blue ribbon awards.
