Description
16" (41 cm.) Porcelain shoulder head depicting an
adult lady with oval shaped face and elongated
throat,painted large blue upper glancing eyes in
well-defined eye sockets,heavy eye lids with red
and black liner,single stroke tapered
brows,accented nostrils of upturned nose,and
closed mouth with center accent line. She has an
early muslin stitch-jointed body with porcelain
lower limbs,and is wearing a printed muslin frock
and undergarments. Her black sculpted hair is
arranged in scalloped curls around her forehead
with stippling details,and waved behind her
fully-sculpted ears into a loosely-coiled braid
that is wound around the top of her very full
chignon that falls onto her back shoulders.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: V (red
letter) 273 (inside shoulder plate). Comments:
Germany,attributed to Conta and Boehme,circa 1870.
Value Points: very unusual highly characterized
facial expression with deeply defined
features,rare coiffure.
