Description
10" (25 cm.) Porcelain shoulder head of adult lady
with painted blue eyes, red and black upper
eyeliner,single stroke brows,accented nostrils,and
closed mouth. The head is attached to its
original carton torso with defined waist, and
having a hidden clockwork mechanism under the
cone-shaped carton skirt,kid arms,brass feet,and
wearing early mauve silk costume,probably
original. Her black sculpted hair is captured
under a gold snood with raised net details and
framed with a gold-trimmed lustre scarf and a
cluster of blue grapes at the crown. Condition:
generally excellent. Comments: Enoch Morrison
designed the mechanical walking doll using various
German made doll heads, circa 1865. The original
1862 patent date is stamped on underside of
skirt, and the store label "Joseph Lyon & Co" is on
the inside box lid. Value Points: luxury doll head
model rarely found on the early American patented
toy,here in original box.
