Description
7" (18 cm.) Each of 12 dolls has one-piece composition head and torso, painted facial
features,blue side-glancing eyes,painted lashes,"O" shaped mouth,mohair wig,jointed
composition arms and legs, painted white socks and black flat shoes. Condition: generally
excellent, white terry robe dusty on July girl. Marks: Mme Alexander (doll) (each costume
tagged Alexander Birthday Doll and the name of a month). Comments: Alexander, circa
1943,the model known as Tiny Betty but marketed here as Birthday Dolls. In 1923 the
trademark for Birthday dolls had been issued to Stella Webster for a period of 20 years (see
Lot #70 this catalog). It is likely more than coincidence that exactly 20 years later,at the
expiration of the Webster trademark, that Alexander Dolls presented a series of 12 costumed
Birthday Dolls. Value Points: rare models with fascinating doll historical connections, each
wearing its original costume with accessories,to represent its month.
