Description
26" (66 cm.) overall length horse and carriage. Dolls are 7 1/2"-12". Presented within and
around a hollow cast metal horse with articulated legs that move when pulled along and sleigh
with original bronze green finish are four bisque head dolls,each with painted facial
features,painted eyes,closed mouth with wistful solemn expression,mohair wig,composition
and wooden fully articulated body,and wearing woolen winter costumes,caps and coats.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (three dolls marked K*R 114,smallest boy marked K*R
101). Comments: dolls by Kammer and Reinhardt from their art character reform series,circa
1910; maker of hinged horse toy unknown,late 19th century. Value Points: an extraordinary
vignette,presented in a scene named "Playmates" in the book Dimples and Sawdust by
Selfridge,page 28,featuring four character dolls in fine antique costumes,with rare horse and
carriage.
