Description
14" (36 cm.) Carved wooden swivel head with painted hair and facial features,short very tight
curls,defined ears,flaring nostrils,full lips,carved eye sockets,all-wooden body with dowel at
upper torso for attaching to swivel head,jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,sculpted
boots. Condition: generally excellent,original finish wonderfully preserved,one baby finger
chipped. Comments: Germany/Austria region,late 18th/early19th century. Value Points:
outstanding highly characterized sculpting,fully-articulated body,wearing superb original
costume of embroidered silks,velvet blouse with richly encrusted metallic embroideries and seed
pearl ornament,floor-length velvet cape with metallic soutache,original wooden base. The doll
was acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1928.
