Description
14" (36 cm.) Sculpted wax head with refined facial features of adult man,enamel inset eyes,sculpted hair and groomed beard,aquiline nose; the head swivels on dowel neck of all- wooden body with articulation at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees,sculpted fingers,sculpted knee-high boots with fancy knee edging. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: probably Austrian,late 18th/early 19th century. Value Points: impeccably preserved with superb wax sculpting of hair and features,rare wooden body,original costume of silks,velvet,silver and gold metallic thread embroideries in infinite detail,original wooden base. The doll was acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1928.
