15" (38 cm.) One piece carved wooden head and torso with sculpted flowing hair and very full moustache,strong nose,painted facial features,painted blue eyes in defined sockets,mouth modeled as though open with painted teeth,oiled-canvas wrapped wooden upper arms and legs,carved wooden lower arms and legs with elaborately sculpted hands and boots,with original wooden stand. Condition: very good,minor paint rubs on face,thumb and toe tip chipped off. Comments: Tyrol (Austria/Germany),early 19th century,the figure was carved and presented as guardsman,and is wearing his original stiffened cotton,velvet and silk uniform with metallic trim,and carrying wooden-handled banner. Value Points: very fine detail of carving of highly characterized face,moustache,hair and boots,original costume.
