Description
24" (61 cm.) Poured wax shoulderhead with slight rosy tint depicting adult lady, slender up-tilted head, elongated throat with defined hollow, half-moon shaped blue glass eyes, incised upper eyeliner, accented nostrils, closed mouth with firmly set lips, delicately-inserted brunette hair in coiled braids, firmly-stuffed muslin body with shapely waist, poured wax arms to above the elbows in elegant curved pose, poured wax slender hip-high legs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: England, circa 1870, the distinctive facial modeling and regal pose indicates the doll is a portrayal of an unknown British royalty, possibly Pierotti whose work included other known examples. Value Points: fine portraiture, the doll is wearing her original (somewhat frail) gown of aqua and ivory silk with extended train, undergarments, silk shoes.
