11" (28 cm.) woman. Each of four dolls has composed wood (toso) head with shell white (gofun) finish,inset glass eyes,silk fiber hair,the woman,a Kyoto-style bijan-ningo (fashion lady),is dressed in a yuzen dyed kosode kimono with chrysanthemum blossom designs,secured at the waist with a broad obi tie belt,and wearing geta sandals. Condition: generally excellent,minor losses of gofun and fading to textiles. Comments: Japan,Taisho era,early 20th century. Value Points: the woman is depicted surrounded by young children,one strapped to her back with silk cords,one standing in imitation of a lion dancer (echigo jishi) with a small lion mask perched atop his head and a large drum at this side,the third child attendant-like. The four dolls are paired with a wood and bamboo fin rickshaw with mat sides and inner seats,large wheels and long pulling arm.
