Description
8" (20 cm.) A simple doll scene mounted on a painted black lacquer base features a sparrow
dressed in silk brocade kimono and a farmer carrying a gifted treasure chest on his back,each
figure with wood composite head having gofun cover,painted features,and inset glass eyes.
Between the two figures is a simulated stand of bamboo,faux rocks and blossoming nandina.
Condition: generally excellent. Comments: tableau dolls depicting a myriad of Japanese folk tales
became a popular addition to the Girl's Day display following the Great Kanto Earthquake of
1923. Japan,Showa era,1930s.
