Description
13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head with three different faces that are alternately revealed when the head is turned by brass ring at the crown; one is ebony black complexion with brown glass eyes,closed mouth,modeled tear and sculpted scowling expression; the second is brown complexioned with painted sleeping eyes,and the third is white-complexioned with brown glass eyes,closed mouth with painted teeth,impressed dimples,smiling expression. The head is enclosed inside a paper mache hood which extends into shoulder plate and rests upon a muslin covered carton torso,composition arms and legs,antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: C.B. Comments: Carl Bergner,circa 1892. Value Points: very rare variation of Bergner's classic three-faced model,having three variant complexions.
