Description
12" (30 cm.) Each has poured wax head,the taller man with enamel eyes,applied brown hair and
beard,all-wooden body with jointing at mid-thigh,shoulders and elbows,superb carving detail of
hands,painted feets; the page with painted facial features,sculpted short brown hair,hemp-
wrapped torso and upper limbs,carved wooden hands and lower legs. Condition: generally
excellent. Comments: early 19th century Continental crib figures depicting villagers from various
occupational and social classes. Value Points: well-preserved artistic figures whose finely
sculpted features and expressions are enhanced by richly accomplished silk,wool and velvet
costumes,original wooden stands. The figures were acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art in
1928.
