Description
12" (30 cm.) Each has carved wooden head with well-defined facial features,natural finish with lightly tinted eyes,brows and lips,muslin body with wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Shanghai Door of Hope mission dolls,one representing a Cantonese Amah with black sculpted hair in chignon with simple hair stick and wearing original short white cotton tunic with rich edging over two additional tunics,short blue pants,black hat and slippers; and Table Boy with side-parted painted black hair,wearing original (faded) blue robe over under robe and fitted pants,black lined vest,black slippers. Value Points: excellent detail of facial carving,fine original costume. The dolls were acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1937.
