11" (28 cm.) tallest. Each doll has a carved wooden head with unusually darkened complexion
from natural wood finish,and highly characterized facial expressions enhanced by painted brows
and highlighted eyes and lips,having muslin bodies and carved wooden hands. Condition:
excellent condition,one outer jacket is not original. Comments: Door of Hope mission
dolls,Shanghai,circa 1930,included are Old Man with queue,Three Young Ladies with carved hair
and comb,in graduated heights,and Bride with carved hair and comb and painted forehead
bangs. Value Points: exceptional carving including variations of facial expression,sculpting of
eye sockets,highly defined ears; each hair style is painted with artistic variations.
