Paper mache head with painted complexion over gesso, painted features, sculpted coiffe to simulate elaborately arranged hair decorated with gold combs and jewels, pierced ears, muslin body, carved wooden lower legs with applied shoes, paper mache hands with elongated fingers. Condition: generally excellent, split at neck seam, some minor wear to coiffe accessories. Comments: Chinese, circa 1890. Value Points: the elaborate theatre doll wears original purple silk costume with embroidered figure and creatures.
