28" (71 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, delicately painted curly lashes, brush-stroked brows with feathered detail, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, separately applied pierced ears, brunette waist-length mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden body with plump limbs and straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13 (and artist check marks, head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1885,his wistful faced child known as Bebe Triste. Value Points: very fine detail of sculpting featuring plump cheeks and dimpled chin, impressed dimples at lip corners and philtrum, lovely bisque and painting enhancing the rich brown eyes, original body and body finish, wearing original blue/grey silk faille dress with velvet trim, velvet bonnet, undergarments, black leather shoes and knit stockings.
