10" (25 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head with oval-shaped face and elongated throat of adult woman, black enamel eyes, painted short lashes and feathered brows, accented nostrils, slightly parted lips with double row of teeth, black painted pate with hand-tied brunette hair, kid body with shapely torso and limbs, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent, body especially sturdy. Comments: French, circa 1850. Value Points: in beautifully preserved condition, the elegant lady is wearing her well-detailed original folklore costume of fine silks and laces, including embroidered lace coiffe and tulle sous- sleeves; the doll is featured in The Encyclopedia of French Dolls by Theimer, page 445.
